As I sit in GCU's Writing Center it gives me the chance to reflect on the effect service learning has on us. For my Capstone course, we are required to volunteer in the university's writing center three times. At first I was skeptical about doing this, because I wanted to have more time for my studies and to be able to work on my own writing. However, service learning helps us become more well-rounded, it has helped me become more well-rounded.
Writing has always been a strong suit of mine. I've been writing since I was four years old. Granted, it was something I had to shape and craft, and college has been extremely beneficial in doing that for me. I always had great ideas but was never able to communicate them effectively. I am thankful for all of my teachers who have come into my path and who have inspired me. I am grateful for the experiences and lessons they have taught me, specifically how to deal with rigor.
Most importantly, I am grateful for the brain and knowledge God has given me. Without that, I would be struggling. Without the knowledge and wisdom, I would not be able to help others perfect the craft I know and love so dearly. Service learning has helped me become more grateful for my abilities but most of all, it has helped me feel better each time I help someone. I enjoy helping others reach their full potential and "acing" their papers.
